I'm loading the updates for the rest of the week today.  In 10  hours we begin the journey to Angel's grandparents modest farm in the hills out in the countryside, which is a 4 hour bus ride and then 30 minute ride in the back of a  4x4 truck up a very crude road.  On Friday about 100 members of Angel's extended family will gather for a big annual family reunion and party.  It should be quite the event with me being the only non-Filipino in attendance and of course Angel's tiny 91 year old great grandmother will be there.  There will be tasty Filipino food and drink and much merriment....Filipinos know how to party.

Australia and New Zealand - ANZAC Day

Italy - End of WW2 1945

I'd like to express my heart felt feelings to the Australians and New Zealanders on the 100th anniversary of the  landings at Anzac Cove and Cape Helles.  This is a time to remember the gallant young men that died on Gallipoli.

Zhou Kun joins us from China with an excellent looking 1/48 Tamiya F-117A Nighthawk.  This F-117 was built mostly OOB with some added scratchbuilt in critical areas to improve upon this very nice Tamiya kit.  I really like the work done on this F-117 model.

Tim Cvetic is here with the very neat looking 1/72 Gremlin Models Utva Aero 3.  This was a small civilian aircraft, but I'll let you read the whole story in Tim's article.  This is a resin kit so it required a bit more effort than usual and Tim did scratchbuild  a few parts such as the instrument panel.  The finished model is a pleasure to see and the article is quite interesting.

Guillaume "Blackjack" Lourdel is here with his beautifully detail and finished 1/72 Revell U-Boat Type VIIC.  Guillaume did plenty of scratchbuilding and then finished off his U-Boat with a flawless weathering job.

Ray Hemenway has changed gears and tried something other than his usual WW1 models.  This is his big 1/32 Tomy Mustang P-51D complete with a host of scratchbuilding to bring up the detail level and finished off in the markings for Frenesi, which gives this Mustang a great look.

Bob Herbert has shown with his 1/72 Academy A-10A Thunderbolt II (Warthog) that although he builds 1/48, he can turn out a great looking model in 1/72.  Bob added RBF tags and weathering plus a full weapons load to show his A-10 as it would have appeared during the Gulf War.

Darin Bellis adds some colour to the ARC homepage with his 1/72 Amodel Pitts Special.  Darin made his own custom decals for the colourful markings on his Pitts Special with marvelous results.

Syria Independence Day

Busy day yesterday.....breakfast at McDonalds (special treat here) then took a trike-taxi (100cc motorbike with a 7 passenger side car) ride up to the very famous Puka beach at the top end of the island.  This is where the Puka Necklace is from....water was crystal clear with gentle waves.  It was the first time there for most of us including Angel......and we all had a grand time.  Then a quiet outdoor dinner for 7 at the poolside restaurant at Cohiba resort...before wandering back to my favourite restaurant "Ole" for Mango shakes to wind down the evening.  It a very relaxing trip.

Orlando Sucre Rosales joins us with his first article on ARC.  This great looking 1/72 Hasegawa Martlet Mk.II is the British version of the Wildcat which Orlando really did turn into a wonderful model with it's paint chipped British camo.  Welcome to ARC Orlando!!!

Istvan Zoldag has done a stellar job on his  Hungarian 1/48 Academy Mig-21MF.  Istvan used a  F.M. Details cockpit and Eduard photoetched parts to dress up the detail on his Fishbed before giving it a flawlessly done paint job.

Floyd S. Werner, Jr. is a highly accomplished modeller and today he is here with his 1/48 Accurate Miniatures Focke-Wulf FW-190A-8. Floyd tells in very helpful detail about how to build this kit to avoid problems.  Floyd weathered his 190 and finished it in the markings for the famous Pips Priller.  Wow....nicely done Floyd.

After 36 hours of traveling I've arrived at the tourist island of Boracay, Philippines.  Boracay is like Waikiki in Hawaii and full of Asian tourists...mostly from China, Taiwan and Korea.  They get cheap package deals much like we get for Las Vegas.  Angel was at the airport to meet me....she is looking good.  It took me a couple of days to settle in and adjust to the time change and figure out an internet connection.  The Philippines is warm and and the people are friendly and everyone speaks is far away but well worth the effort.  Today is a quiet day at home resting and relaxing.

I've loaded the update for Monday and Tuesday.....go back and enjoy.

Busolini Massimo dropped by the ARC Corporate office in Italy with his 1/48 Hasegawa TF-104G Starfighter.  Busolini used a very simple but effective technique for painting his Royal Danish Air Force Starfighter.  The finished model looks fantastic and his painting technique is well worth reading about in his article.

Dan McWilliams is here with one of my favourite airliners.  This is his 1/144 CC-137  which Dan built with good ol' modelling skill and finished it off with aftermarket decals.  I fondly recall flying a DND (Canadian Military) 707 in '72 on a  'flip' to Cyprus with my Dad for a vacation.  As I recall the flight was $12 per cover food.

Serge Dompierre  has done an exceptionally nice job building, detailing his  and finishing his 1/32 Hasegawa Fw-190 A-8.  Serge added scratchbuilt detail to his 190 and that posed it in a  maintenance diorama complete with figures and tools etc.  I really like how this one turned out.

Mark Patman is here with his second article on ARC.  This is Mark's 1/48 Tamiya P-47 Razorback and although Mark is humble about his efforts......I'm deeply impressed when I see how well his P-47 turned out.

Sergei Galicky is here with his excellent looking Vietnam era 1/48 Italeri F-4E Phantom II.  Sergei gave his Phantom a full weapons load plus all the small details that set a model apart from the rest.  The paint job and weathering is exactly what I would expect from a real F-4 in Vietnam.

Marcius Cesar Costa is here with a very interesting conversion.  This is his 1/72 PBY 5A Cargo Catalina completed with a  resin set from GIIC Models.   Marcius finished it off in Brazilian Air Force markings.  Nicely done Marcius.

Bill Dedig starts today in style with his 1/48 Eduard/Kinetic F-16 A Netz wearing Israeli markings.  This was quite the involved project using Bill's top notch skills as a modeller and some aftermarket goodies to complete this stunning model.  Bill demonstrates in his photos how to get a soft edge on camo using Blu-tack.  I love the look of this Netz.

Burt Gustafson is here with a rare Japanese aircraft based on the Zero.  This is his 1/72 Hasegawa Nakajima A6M2-N Type 2 Fighter Seaplane in all it's glory and displayed on a beaching dolly.  Burt chose the markings for a seaplane that operated at Kiska Island, Aleutian Islands, in the summer of 1942..

Vladimír Žucha has done a gorgeous job finishing and weathering his   1/32 Revell Messerschmitt Bf-109G-14.  Vladimír finished his 109 in Croatian markings for an aircraft at the end of the war using custom made decals.  I love the colors of the camo scheme on Vladimír's Croatian fighter.

Shawn "Phantom" Weiler has redone a model he built long long ago.  This is Shawn's 1/48 Hasegawa F-4G Phantom #177, which he figures was his first 1/48 Phantom and now it is sporting a rare Phantom paint scheme from the Viet Nam war.  I always enjoy seeing Shawn's work and ARC and it is exciting to see one of his first models on the ARC homepage.  I'm glad Shawn saved this model and rebuilt it.

Easter Sunday

WW1 Events - this date in  1915

David “drhornii” Horn starts this very cool Easter Egg plane update with his Hasegawa P-51 Egg plane.  David built his Mustang in the markings of an actual Mustang he got to ride in.  Very cool David.

Wild Bill Bulek is here with his very amusing Hasegawa ANA Eggplane.   This one was trickier to build than it looks but bill pulled it on in grand style. The finished model looks excellent and very amusing.

Jon Whitmer has gone all out on his Hasegawa Fw-190D Egg Plane.  He detailed the cockpit and then dropped the elevators and gave it a full weathering job.  It looks very cool indeed.

Alvis 3.1 is here to finish off this Easter Egg update with his very amusing Tie-Egg.  Oddly enough this looks like it could have been an actual model from the Star Wars movie.  Too bad this kit is was limited production.

Mike Pattison is here with his very attractive 1/32 Revell Ju 88 A4 wearing one of those complicated looking North African camo schemes. Mike enhanced his Ju 88 quite a bit with excellent results including redoing all the rivet detail which must have taken many hours.  This one is a beauty.
