1/72 ESCI Douglas EC-47N Dakota

This is an old ESCI kit which I had stacked away. It is built to represent an Electronic Counter Measures aircraft which was operational with the 360th T.E.W.S.  460th T.R.W.  Tan Son Nhut, Vietnam, early 1969. The construction is straight from the box with  only a few minor changes. The clear plastic windshield has been replaced by thin Perspex as the one supplied with the kit was not so convincing. All markings and lettering came from an old decal sheet.

Being an ECM aircraft, it is has 14 types of antennae spread over and under the fuselage as well as the wings, all made from stretched spruce. The completed model rests on  wire mesh covered ground, which was used to prevent  wheels clogging in mud due to the extreme climatic conditions in Vietnam.

The model is painted in the traditional Vietnam colours of two greens and a brown, using Testors enamels with a final coat of Testors flat clear lacquer finish.
