This
latest sheet from Two Bobs is a very moving and patriotic sheet designed
for the Italeri and upcoming Revell Monogram F/A-18E Super Hornet kit.
All 3 jets on this decal sheet feature 9-11 artwork.
Operation
Iraqi Freedom marked the first operational deployment of the Super
Hornet. VFA-115 deployed on the USS Abraham Lincoln in support of
the war on terrorism during the summer of 2002. Once the bullets
started flying, this unit was heavily involved in the bombing campaign
in Afghanistan.
There
are three aircraft represented on this sheet with enough stencil data
for two complete jets. All three jets sport nose art and mission
markings. Each aircraft also had the name of an FDNY
firefighter that lost his life on 9/11 during the WTC attack.
After VFA-115 returned from cruise, many of the pilots and crew from
this squadron visited the WTC site and the men from Engine 54, Ladder 4
of the FDNY.
Mission
loadout information as well as other information was provided by Lt.
Robert Kihm of VFA-115. Lt. Kihm was the pilot of A/C 212
"Hijack This". Thanks to him as well as all the other
folks at Lemoore NAS that made this sheet a possibility.
