1/72 F-84G Thunderjet model kit

April Fools Day 2003

A new addition to the evergrowing field of 1/72 scale aircraft, the Pilot kit of the F-84G exemplifies simplified construction. Consisting of 6 parts, the predecorated fuselage saves on messy painting and tedious decalling time. Even the canopy was pre-masked and pre-painted. A single Phillips head screwdriver was included to fasten the wing to the fuselage, but it fit so well, you could skip that step.

Overall, the plane measured out close to scale, and the markings were authentic for a Korean War plane. I had trouble believing it wasn't 1/48 scale! Unfortunately, the stance of the undercarriage was incorrect, with a pronounced nose-down attitude (as seen in the finished photo), but replacing the nose gear with one from the Tamiya 1/72 scale F-84 should correct this. I found the kit at a local Dollar Store (hence the $8.00 price tag...somehow that didn't make sense!)  I would recommend the kit highly to any truly lazy modellers out there.
