Hi
All,
This
is my Trumpeter 1/24th scale Bf109 G6, flown by Hauptmann Anton Hackl,
Europe
1944, and is my first submission to this great site!
The
model was built mainly OOB with a few extra editions and a little scratch
building and detailing. The extra bits used were a Verlinden resin cockpit set,
Eduard photo etched seatbelts and resin wheels. It was painted using Xtracrylix
acrylics, which when thinned properly give a great finish, and the weathering
was done with enamel washes and artist’s chalk pastels in various shades of
grey, browns and black. I used the kit decals, but found them to be a little
thick. A number of applications of MicroSol were required to get them to sit
down, but after the clear coat they looked great. I also used the Hobby Decal
dry transfer stencil set which went on a dream and look superb.

The
Daimler Benz DB605 engine and cockpit were detailed using fuse wire, solder and
some extra parts from the Verlinden resin kit. The only real problems I
encountered were with the Verlinden cockpit set. Some of the major components
were way too big and chunky!! Much sanding, thinning of sidewalls and reworking
was required to make them fit, but after a few days grunting and sweating the
final outcome was great.
Overall
the kit went together superbly, with the usual Trumpeter precision. Almost no
filler was required for the major airframe components. A great kit straight out of
the box made even better with a little hard work and patience.
I
hope you enjoy the pics as much as I enjoyed building this big kit.
Chris
