1/72 Hasegawa Jaguar GR1

I don't seem to have finished anything for a while, so here's an old one. This is the Hasegawa Jaguar GR1, in the markings of 41 (Composite) Sqn, Gulf War I.

I had intended to build a Gulf War Buccaneer (still do) but when the Modeldecal sheet arrived from Hannants I noticed it included markings for this aircraft as well. I have a good friend called Debbie so I built this for her.

This was one of the first models I built when I returned to aircraft modelling after a 20 year break, and it was the first time I had used PE (Eduard) or resin aftermarket parts (Airwaves seat, flaps and slats), so it was bit of a steep learning curve. I know where the flaws and mistakes are but Debs was delighted with it and has it in her china cabinet along with her husband’s diecast buses.

Paints are Humbrol, and the weathering was done with watercolours and enamels. It is probably overdone as the real aircaft was re-named ‘White Rose’ early on in the conflict, but it’s hiding a load of mistakes and dodgy touching up. Apart from the additions mentioned earlier, the Phimat and ALQ pod were pinched from an Italeri Jaguar kit, and the base was made from a sheet of Verlinden concrete. The complete model sits in a Tamiya display case.

 I hope you like it,

Stuart
