I have been attempting
to build most of the aircraft in service with the USMC, with no current CH-53E
kits available in 1/48th I had a couple of older Revell CH-53 kits in the stash
with several bits from Cobra Co and Cutting
Edge. I wanted to build the 53D up in its current bumped
and blisterd get up before they head out from Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii to the desert
resort to hang in the heat with the Tomcats.

Lots of plastic card
and scratch building are necessary to get is old kit to look right as the
interior is non existent. Most of the decals were done on my inkjet with
poor results so the Two Bobs Wiskey sheet left overs came in handy again with a
few from an old supper scale sheet for a hi vis 53.
Painting was with Model master
paints. The weathering was very time intensive to get right as in all of
the research photos of the Deltas they were very soiled with fluid leaks and
exhaust stains. This kit is very enjoyable to build and goes together
well. We'll see how the new trumpeter release of the Echo is when it hits
the shelves later this year.
