Picked
up at a swap meet, this 1/72nd scale North American F100D was made up
from the old Esci kit #9042. I made it straight out
of the box, deciding to finish it in the colours of the Armée
de l’Air (French Air Force) to add to my
collection of aircraft used by the French military since the end of WW2. The kit
came with decal options to make an aircraft of either the French or Turkish Air
Forces.

A
straight forward kit to build, the only additions were in the form of some
detail to the cockpit and the drilling out of the nose intake so that it
didn’t appear to be blocked! Challenges came with trying to replicate the
different metallic effects at the rear of the fuselage and overcoming crumbling
decals, caused obviously by the period of time that the kit had sat in its box
before I picked it up at the swap meet. This decal problem also necessitated my
having to hand paint the two red warning stripes around the rear fuselage.
All
up, and enjoyable kit to make.
