The Macchi M52r is an Italian participant of the1929 Schneider Trophy. With a more powerful 1000 hp FIAT AS5 engine and swept wings, it is basically a derivative of the 1926 winner Macchi M39. Although a very serious competitor, it finished 2nd place behind the British Napier Lion engined Supermarine S5.

The Vintage Models high quality resin kit from Italy is easy to build but no decals are provided, so I used some from the spares box. I painted this model with "Italian red" (obviously) Tamiya spray.

As on many Macchi airplanes, one wing is shorter than the other to counteract engine torque.
