1/48 Trumpeter USN KA-3B Long Distance Record Flight

In July 1975 this particular aircraft US Navy KA-3B Bu/No 147648 of CVWR 20 Fleet Reserve squadron VAQ-208 performed the longest ever non-stop flight of a carrier based aircraft. In a 13 hour flight this Skywarrior flew over a distance of 6.100 miles.

The pilot was Lt. George Sigler accompanied by Lt. Mike Grant and Fred Carrigan. Sigler became also famous when he decided to cross the Pacific together with another sailor in a rubber dinghy. After 56 days they reached Hawaii. His experience was written down in his book ‘Experiment in Survival’.

Today George Sigler runs very successful a major flight school, guess what the name is … ‘Skywarrior’.

The model shown will go to Pensacola. It picks up a display stand rod through the refueling receptacle. This rod has been retouched in one picture! Thank you and have fun!
