This was my third attempt to make an all-action, low-flying diorama. The base scene was made some time before I decided to add the P-51. In itself, the plane is a good kit though with a poor canopy: cast in one piece it really needs cutting in three before it can be fitted convincingly.

Otherwise, the kit went together well. It was brush-painted in Tamiya acrylics, with a wash and dry-brush using artists tubed acrylics. Kit decals were used to make only a generic machine.

The base is no more than a simple lump of scrap polystyrene with groundwork from glue-soaked tissue. The figures are the old Hasegawa hard plastic US infantry team which are quite good though a little emaciated.

The Panther tank is from a grossly simplified Lee kit which may only be available here in China. However, it was good enough for my purposes.

Figures and tank were finished in the same way as the plane. Support for the P-51 comes from wire, heated and pushed right through the tank and base - surprisingly easy and quick. Smoke is simply dyed cotton wool wrapped around the wire.
