   Polish Independence Day

Having recently posted a DML 1/144 Mig-29A Fulcrum built as a Mig-29N operated by the Royal Malaysian Air Force, I came to like this aircraft.  I was only able to get one from Academy only from the local store here.  The original kit came with decals for the Russian Air Force with the bort number “09”.  I did some search and came across one Mig-29A operated by the Polish Air Force due to the unique emblem carried on its main back. This aircraft was operating under the 1st Fighter Aviation Regiment “Warsaw” under 1st Squadron in Minsk, Marzowiecki, Poland.  Depicted here is an aircraft bearing bort number “115” from the said Squadron.  The big emblem was painted on it to commemorate the visit in Sept 1994 by the French Air Force Mirage 2000C from 2EC operating from Djion-Longvic, France following the signing of an agreement between the two Air Forces earlier in1993.  The Polish Air Force visited France and they had their Mirages painted with the “Mermaid” emblem of the Polish 1st Squadron on the belly.  The emblem carried by the Polish Mig-29A is the emblem of the French 2EC unit.

The kit is basically built OOB.  The only exception is some scratchbuilt parts like pitot and probes, and the IRST on the front port side of the cockpit.  The decals and stencils were self-made.  The colour scheme is basically the standard Russian scheme of light gray overall with gray/green camo on the upper surfaces.  I premix the colours from Tamiya/Mr Hobby basic colours and airbrushed it on.  Weathering was minimal given it light colours.

I had the DML Mig-29 displayed alongside this Academy kit.  Both kits had good details and was easy to built.  However, the weapons carried on the DML kit is more accurate as compared to the Academy kit.  Hope you Mig-29 enthusiasts enjoyed them.  And to all Polish, here’s wishing you a Happy Independence Day.
