To have a preference
for Soviet aircraft models is often not so easy, especially if they should be in
1/48 scale. Here is another project of my affectation - a Yak-17. I already
build the Czech Model Yak-15 in 1/48 (take a look in to the gallery), but there
is no kit of the Yak-17 in this scale, so I did it in my usual way: I took an
old model of mine, in this case it was an ICM Yak-9D, cleaned it up, to some
research, drew a scale plan and here we go...

In pictres 11 you can see
what I have done:
cover
the gearbays and built new ones, enlarge the vertical fin and built new
horizontal stabiaziors, make new flap and flaphousings, cut the wings,
built new ailerons, make a new gear (the mainwheels were the originals and
the frontwheel is a modified Mi-24 frontwheel), make a tube with 10mm
diameter with air intake with coagulant and exhaust pipe including the last
engine stage, built the fuselage with 2mm plasticstrips and sand it into
the correct shape, and last but not least built the entire cockpit with
the panel.
The painting scheme
is an usual one for Soviet aircraft in the decade, I researched it on this
website:
http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww3/f/273/1/0.
The decals are from
other kits. The canopy is pretty much the same as the Yak-15-one.
The project took at
least 3 weeks of intensive work. I'm very proud of the result and I hope you like
it to....
I have many model
projects in the backr, some of my next are the modern Kamovtwins - Ka-50 and
Ka-52 in service camoflage...you will see it first!!
