  Singapore National Day 2009

Twelve years ago, the Boeing 747-400 was the star of the Singapore Airlines fleet and were christened as "MegaTops", with most of them flying long-haul flights on the European, Middle Eastern and North American routes from Singapore Changi Airport home base. These 747s are gradually being replaced by the newer A380s, B777-300ERs and A340-500s in SQ service. This is a special B747-400 in the 50th Anniversary livery and it was applied to a B777-200 and an A340-300. Although this particular B747-400 has been repainted back into the usual SQ livery (and I think it has been leased or sold off to another airline), it is still an attractive and eye-catching livery that will be remembered in Singapore Airlines' history.

The Revell kit is wonderfully detailed and most parts fitted without much trouble and built OOB. However, I did have some challenges with concealing the gaps between the section which holds the landing gear and the fuselage. The fuselage, wings and the four Pratt Whitney engine cowls were painted with White Automotive Spray cans and Gunze Sangyo FS26440 Light Grey and H13 Neutral Grey. As for the wing landing lights, I custom printed it as decals to simulate the green oval lights on the actual aircraft. The light grey landing wheels were given a wash of dark brown to give it a "dirty and operational" look for added realism. The superb decals are from Flying Colors FC44-008 and beautifully printed, and accurately designed down to the 144th scale, which went on smoothly to the fuselage.

This model is mounted with super glue on a wooden stand and will be housed in a showcase for a SQ pilot who has fond memories of flying this A/C during his service as a First Officer, and has since converted over to the SQ B777 fleet.

Thanks for viewing my contribution and hope you have enjoyed viewing my artwork and pictures. Happy 44th Birthday Singapore!
