1/48 Monogram OA37B Dragonfly

This kit was my first attempt at using Photo Etched parts and the additional scratch built parts to enhance the basic kit. Monogram is known for producing kits of interesting subjects with excellent detail that can be built out of the box requiring little or no additional detail. I built this kit in 1996 way before any resin after market details sets were available. With careful dry brushing and a subtle wash the cockpit is fine out of the box. Now with the recently released Black Box cockpit you can expect to see more of this kit at the modeling shows. I used for Photo etch part the in take FOD screens, nylon material for the seat cushions, and scratch built oxygen hoses and the whip antennas from stretched sprue.

All panel lines were left raised and accentuated with ground chalk pastel. The decals are from Super Scale. The model is finished with the Model Master paints. My reference material was obtained from Squadron Signal in Action publications, although more to be obtained from the Internet.

I highly recommended this fascinating and interesting subject as it builds to an excellent kit in little time. To add further detail you can open the gun bay and scratch build it, or wait for the aftermarket companies to offer a detailed set.
