Canberra
T17A
This is a model of the RAF's "Electronic Canberra" (now withdrawn from
service) in the markings of 360 Squadron at RAF Wyton in 1990.
The model is based on a Falcon vac-form kit of the Martin B57 with numerous
additions from the spares box to form the lumps and bumps peculiar to this
aircraft. The cockpit interior was scratch built from plastic card with an
Aeroclub white metal ejection seat. The undercarriage wheel wells, struts
and doors were also scratch built but the vac-formed wheels were not too bad and
so I actually used them.

The prominent nose was assembled
from a sawn off spares box drop tank of suitable shape and additional lumps
faired in with filler. An article on the Canberra T17A's of 360 Squadron
in an RAF Yearbook had pictures and drawings showing where all the various
aerials, intakes, conduits and "lumps" went. The engine intakes
are white metal spares from a couple of Aeroclub EE Lightning kits.
Humbrol Hemp and Light Aircraft Grey were brush applied and all of the decals
came from the spares box - very satisfying.
