Anniversary of the Chilean Navy and the anniversay of the Iquique´s Naval Combat (South Pacific War, between Chile, Peru and Bolivia)

Today, I begin the long journey home.  This actually involves a trip from the resort island of Boracay, Philippines to the larger island where the airport is located.  I'll do an overnight stay in a  modest hotel local to the airport before grabbing a morning  flight out to Manila and then a 13 hour flight to Vancouver before the final leg home by bus and ferry to my home island and my city of Victoria.  I expect to be offline for the next 2 updates.  Then I'll get thing back on track regarding updates.

There is nothing more corruptible to a solid work ethic than a hot climate, friendly people and endless outdoor restaurants on a white sandy beach with cool evening breezes blowing in off the crystal clear waters of the south pacific.  It has been nearly impossible to figure out what the day of week it is here......and totally beyond my scope to calculate the time and day back home in N America.  The resort had a weak internet connection compared the my high speed connection at home and oddly enough the internet connection was only good in the resort's restaurant, which was very smart from  a  business point of view.

Filipino people are famous for being friendly and I experienced this with everyone I interacted with or made eye contact with while wandering about.  I do plan to return here.....it has been a very enjoyable and memorable experience.

Sten Arne Bryde Brunsby gets things started today with his 1/32 Hobbyboss F-84G Thunderjet that was intended for the missed Friday update......my apologies to Sten.  Sten did and exceptionally fine job on the baremetal finish on his F-84 .  He also included the interesting history of Norway's F-84 fleet. Excellent article and model Sten.

Phil Mead joins us from down under with has 1/48 Tamiya F4U1 Corsair finished off in Kiwi markings for Corsair that operated in the South Pacific in the closing stages of WW2.  Phil did some excellent research for his Corsair and he reveals this in his article.  His Corsair is dedicated to his future Kiwi son-in-law.....it's good to see the ANZAC Alliance has not faded.

Yufei Mao is an expert on the Flanker, so it is a special treat to see his latest Flanker model on the ARC's homepage.  This is his 1/72 Airfix Su-27P with all the mods to improve the accuracy along with a large amount of added detailing using aftermarket items as well as Yufei's expert scratchbuilding skills.  Beautiful work Yufei.

Kit has done an exceptional job heavily and realistic weathering this 1/48 Hasegawa F-14B “Grim Reapers”.  This is a shark mouth Tomcat complete with the amazing patchy paint that you would see on a USN Tomcat after many months at sea. Kit also dressed up this Tomcat with a detail set from Aires.  Wow....I love the look of the finished model.

Gianni Chirico joins us from sunny Sicily with his 1/72 Zvezda Mikoyan Mig-3.  Gianni  built this one out of the box and finished it off as a fighter from the Leningrad Front in Summer Camouflage.  I really enjoyed seeing the summer camo on Gianni's MiG-3.

Alvis 3.1 is here with one of the more creative and bizarre egg planes I've seen.  This is his 1/32 Pysanky Racing Team which was a special Ukrainian Republic racer entered in the 1940 Cleveland Air Races.  Alvis 3.1 has the full and almost forgotten history of this historic race in his article.  Nice one Alvis....it was a hoot to see and also a hoot to read about this one.

Mark Chen has done an exceptionally fine job on his 1/48 AFV Club F-5S Tiger II.  Mark chose a Republic of Singapore Air Force F-5 complete with 3 tone camo scheme and a full weapons load.  Marks explains the history and differences of the RSAF F-5's in his article.  Beautifully done Mark.....your F-5 is a beauty.

I've arrived at my destination......the Philippine island of Boracay.  This place is your classic south pacific tropical tourist destination....but with all the wonders of the Filipino culture....friendly people, amazing service and the tasty Filipino food.  If you're ever heard of Puka Shell necklaces.....on the north end of this island is a place called Puka Beach and that is where the puka shell necklaces originated from..   I plan to spend 1 week here before heading home.

As for product articles.....I might not be doing many of those this week as all the products are back home, but I will do model gallery articles each day this week.
