  Ukraine National Day

mclents begins today with a US Nationals 2007 photos and report.   At this point the model tables are still filling up as modellers arrive......but mclents does give you a very good idea of the quality of models and some of the great deals in the Vendor Room.  These photos were originally uploaded to the ARC Air Forums.

Henryj has also uploaded some photos to the ARC Air Forums.  Here's his US Nationals 2007 photos and report.  This looks like it is shaping to be a very good Nationals.  Damn....I wish I was there.

oortiz10 from the ARC Air Forums ran across this article in today's local paper (the O.C. Register) about the US Nationals. oortiz10 said "I thought it was kinda' cool that us "geeks" are getting some exposure. HA! It's not a great article, but hey, any publicity is good publicity, right?"  Here's a link to the article models-hobb...airplanes-model

Bob Sanchez of Twobobs Decals is here with his Day 1 report from the US Nationals 2007

Bob Sanchez of Twobobs Decals is here with his Day 2 report from the US Nationals 2007

Scott Lyle is here with his 1/48 Flashback Fokker Eindecker E.III.  This little beauty is weathered to give it the perfect look of realism.  Scott did the rigging with one piece of line that he weaved over and over again......read his article for the full details.  These special delicate fighters from oh so long ago tug at my heart strings......I guess it was the gallant romantic nature of those early flyers.

Thursday,   Aug 23  2007
Well I'm finally starting to get my energy level back......finally.

Colin Gomez has done an outstanding job detailing and weathering his 1/48 Classic Airframes Westland Whirlwind.  This is a limit run kit that Colin added extra scratchbuilt details to give it such features as a sliding canopy.  Colin followed all this up with a first rate oil wash weathering job.

Youri Dehouck joins us from Belgium with his 1/72 Hasegawa "Blue Falcon".  This is one of the more interesting F-16 paint schemes using decals from Daco.....these are big decals, but Youri got them looking perfect.

David Upp is enjoying his retirement and today he joins us with another of his gems.  This is his 1/72 Tamiya P-47 Razorback done up in diorama.  David added some photo etch in the cockpit and than finished her off with noseart and weathering with great results.

Jeff Hamel is here with his 1/144 Trumpeter Ilyushin IL-76.  This is an excellent kit, but Jeff added his own skill at finishing to complete it to very high level.  You're going to enjoy looking  at this one up close.

Wednesday,   Aug 22  2007

It's my birthday and I'm going to take the day off.  I'm still not feeling 100% and I've been busy the past day or two tending to my wife as she deals with the same flu.  Thankfully her symptoms were much milder than mine.

Tuesday,   Aug 21  2007
Jaroslav Král begins today with one of my all time favourite Japanese Air Force paint schemes.  This is his 1/48 Hasegawa F-15J  and the job Jaroslav did on it is perfect.  I love this scheme and Jaroslav got her looking perfect.

John Green has been very busy building his 1/72 Aeroclub Gloster Gamecock.  This is an older limited run kit and although it does challenge the modeller on many levels......John proves in his beautifully detailed article that this kit does build up into a great looking model.

Osni Vieira Junior is here today from Brazil with a sharp looking 1/32 Hasegawa F-5E.  The F-5 was a common jet around the world with many airforces and Osni chose to do his F-5 in the colour of his native Brazil.  Very nicely done Osni.....the F-5 always looks good in camo.

Alex Sidharta begins today's update honouring the Indonesia Independence Day with his 1/32 Revell TNI AU F-16A.  Alex is a well known talented modeller here on ARC and his big F-16 was given plenty of effort to make it a correct version of the Viper flown by Indonesia.  He tells about some of this effort in his article and includes 4 images of his other F-16's as well.

Fernando I. Moreno Villa is here from sunny Monterrey, México with his 1/72 Airfix P-51D Mustang.  This is an older kit, but that didn't stop Fernando from turning out a great looking gloss black Mustang in Dominican Republic Air Force (FAD) markings.

John A Thomas is here with a very special model.  John's club was asked to help restore the museums models and John chose to restore their 1/48 Lindberg SNARK.  This was a labor of love and in the end John got this Snark model back to tip top condition.

Marat is here with a very enjoyable looking 1/200 Hasegawa Boeing-737-400 done up in the Western Pacific Simpsons paint scheme.  Paint schemes like this are one of the most interesting and addictive aspects to airliner modelling.

I spent this morning volunteering at the local petting zoo.  This is something my nine year old daughter was keen to do this summer and I must admit we have fun dealing with the baby goats and rabbits and being followed around by the miniature pony named "Peanut Butter" as she watches us work.  Of course going to bed at 2AM and waking up at 7:30AM takes a bit of a shine off the fun......ZZZZZZZZzzzzzz

Gabriel Stern is here to start your day off with a giggle.  This is his Scratch-built 1/72 Scroggs Last Laugh.  This is an actual plane that actually flew......to an impressive altitude of 10 feet.  Gabriel tells the whole story about this aircraft and how he scratchbuilt his model in his article.  Including in-progress pics.  The F-14 Tomcat has nothing on Mr Scroggs aircraft!!!  :-D

Jeff Hamel has done an outstanding job on his 1/48 Hasegawa F-14A Tomcat.  And of course this detailed and expertly weathered Tomcat is finished in Jolly Rogers markings.  Jeff found this model a pain to build, but he stuck with it and now has an excellent F-14 to be proud of.

AEX came into the Canary Islands ARC Corporate offices this morning while I was having a coffee with the local staff with this exceptional 1/72 Hasegawa Messerschmitt Bf-109E-3I was glad I got to see it before boarding the ARC Corporate jet to fly back to the home office.  The weathering is a sight to behold.

Alvaro Troncoso Gil (Bruja) has done a lovely job on his 1/48 Academy MIG 21 Bis FAR.  Although this great looking MiG is built out of the box.....it looks great.......which is probably due to the colourful Cuban markings.

I have a review of the  1/32 Israeli Air Force F-16A Netz decal sheet from  IsraDecal.  This sheet features 8 different Israeli F-16's including one that bombed the Iraqi nuclear plant.

Here is a preview of the 1/48 F-14B/D VX-9 det Mugu decal sheet from Fightertown Decals.  This sheet covers 4 aircraft from VX-9 Det Point Mugu in the late nineties up through their Tomcat retirement in 2004.

  India Independence Day

Congo National Day     Republic of Korea National Day

Late update today.....I was busy all morning setting up our large wading pool for my kids as I worked on today's update off and on.  I tried something new this year....using  hot water from our hot water tank to give the kids warm water....instead of the usually chilly water.  It worked like a charm.  They are outside relaxing and laughing in warm water under the cover of an awning to keep the sun off them.  No time to complete today's reviews.....I've been working 7 nights a week at work recently.

Colin Gomez begins today with his 1/48 Hasegawa Hawker Typhoon IB.  Colin added quite a bit of extra detailing to his Typhoon and his efforts paid off as he  elevated his kit to a very inspiring level.  He finished off his rocket armed Typhoon with weathering and aftermarket decals.

Dan McWilliams has been busy buiding the 1/48 Monogram CF-101 Voodoo for a former pilot that flew this Voodoo.  Dan built this beauty as an in-flight model....with excellent results.

René Zass has been building the very fururistic looking 1/72 Italeri YF-23 Black WidowRené includes the history behind this jet and many building tips if you are planning to build this one.  René's finished YF-23 captures the look of the real aircraft very well.

PHAN NGUYEN Hoang Nguyen has done an outstanding job detailing and weathering the big 1/32 Tamiya F- 4E Phantom.  You're going to love this one!!!

Pierre Christian Baudru has been busy detailing his 1/72 DML MIG-15.  Pierre added plenty of scratchbuilt details in the cockpit and wires etc in the gear bays to improve upon the kit details.  Pierre's MiG was finished off with aftermarket decals and one of the best looking camo schemes used on the MiG-15.  Pretty impressive detailing for a 1/72 kit.

Vince Lucente is here with his expertly built 1/48 Special Hobby North American Aviation X-15-A2.  Vince is too modest when he talks about his abilities.....a close look at the photos of his limited run X-15 will show his careful attention to detail skill at completing a challenging kit.

Thang Le is back with another gem from his workbench.  This is Thang's 1/48 Italeri AH-1Z Viper built mostly out of the box with operational markings.  It's always a treat seeing Thang's work on ARC.

Colin Gomez had a grand time building his 1/48 Tamiya Mosquito FB VI.  This is an excellent kit that builds up into a stellar model as you can see from Colin's photos.  Colin chose the D-Day striped markings for the RAF Coastal Command.

Jan Manninen has done an outstanding job building and detailing his 1/72 Streem Sukhoi Su-24M Fencer.  Jan went to great lengths taking this limited run kit and turning it into a highly detailed masterpiece with the use of aftermarket items, scratchbuilt details and good old fashioned moldeling skill.
