The
F-14 has a very large and loyal following in the modelling community.
So the release of this decal sheet in 1/72 is sure to be a welcome
event.
VF-11
out of NAS Oceana has one of the most colorful markings of any Tomcat
unit on the east coast. AME2 (AW) CJ Gould works in the squadron
corrosion control shop and designed the paint scheme that you see here
on the squadron's CAG jet. CJ provided Twobobs with all the
references they needed for this sheet. You will notice that
VF-11's jets carried a non-standard TPS paint scheme so study the
instruction sheet carefully to make sure you get your F-14 correct!
VF-11
was the winner of the Grand Slam and Mutha Award in 2003. The
Grand Slam Award is for excellence in both air to air and air to ground
munitions delivery and the Mutha Award is for squadron esprit de corps.
Both of these jets have special markings to commemorate this event.
There
are enough markings on this sheet for two complete jets and some of the
markings are broken apart to ensure excellent registration. Decals
are contained on one decal sheet....the decals are very clearly printed
and in register. Both F-14's featured on this sheet have some very
attractive markings. I'm partial to the black tailed "Grand
Slam" jet due to it's more striking markings. Both tomcats on
this sheet are from the USS John F Kennedy.
