Siam Scale is a decal company based in the Thailand.  They produce a great selection of decals for the Royal Thailand Air Force as well as other Air Forces of the Far East.  They also do decals for aircraft of other Air Forces....such as Israel.  This 1/72 decal sheet focuses on 14 different F-16's of the Royal Thai Air Force.  There are enough stencils included to build 2 of the 14 planes featured on this decal sheet.  The 14 planes come from 3 different Squadrons.  There is also extra numbers included to possibly make other planes from these 3 Squadrons.

The planes featured on this decal sheet are from

  • 102 Squadron fron Korat Airbase

  • 403 Squadron from Taklee Airbase

  • 103 Squadron from Korat Airbase

You have a choice of 2 different paint schemes.....either the lighter grey of the darker grey.  These are your standard F-16 camo layout.

The markings are what set these planes apart.  All 3 squadrons different tail art.  103 sqn. has a lightning bolt, # 102 sqn. has 2 shooting stars and 403 sqn. has a Cobra Snake.  There is also a tiny Tiger....but the instructions don't show where it goes and this particular sample of mine didn't included a colour sheet showing colour side profiles of the planes features (there colour sheets are included in their other decal sheets).

The decals are clearly printed.  They are a bit thicker than most decals, but they aren't overly thick and should settle down just fine....I don't see this as a problem.  The colour of the decals looks very good and the detail on the tiny Tiger's stripes and the Cobra nose art is very clear.

The instruction sheets have a pile of data about painting and decal stencil placement.  Siamscale has provided a  huge number of stencils in this decal set.

Because these decals are from the Far East....the instruction sheet refers to one of the Far Eastern Brand of paints.  This shouldn't be much of an issue, but you will have to dig up a conversion chart of some sort to figure out the paint colours if your local hobby shop doesn't stock this brand of paint.  There are 4 different colours of paint mentioned on the instruction sheet.  The instructions show 4 views of these F-16's.  Go slow on the instructions to avoid making any mistakes.

All in all a nice set of decals of the Royal Thai Air Force F-16A and B's and I recommend these to anyone wanting to add a Royal Thai Air Force F-16A/B to their display case.

I'd like to thank Siam Scale Decals for sending me this review sample.
