1/48 Monogram A-26B Invader

by Jim Birchfield

--------------------

This is the original issue kit, purchased about twelve years ago and built straight out of the box. As with all the Monogram kits of that era, there are raised panel lines and some fit issues, but as you can see it still builds up to an accurate model. The decals depict "Stinky", an A-26B early version, as she looked when with the 552nd Bomb Squadron of the 386th Bomb Group in April, 1945 at Beaumont France.

The interiors were painted with Humbrol 155 Interior Green, weathered with an oil wash of a mix of black and burnt umber, then dry brushed with a lightened version of Humbrol 155. The last dry brush was with metallic silver artist oil by LiquiTex, which is no longer available.

The exterior of the model was painted with Alclads, the first set issued. Nacelles and anti-glare panels were painted with Model Master enamels. The weathering of the exhaust stains was air brushed using Model Master SAC Bomber Tan.
