In the depths of the Great Depression, Santa was forced to cut back on Reindeer food and began to fly more of his Christmas Eve missions with aircraft.

In 1934, he used the latest in Race Plane Technology from the Granville Brothers, the Gee Bee Race Plane, suitably modified for use on skis. He only used the Gee Bee Ski for two years, as newer and faster aircraft were beginning to be produced, and the lack of spare parts was beginning to become an issue.
