Hi there fellow
modellers!!
This is my second submission to ARC following my Sea King in
tiger stripes which I hope you all appreciated. This my 1:72 Revell
F-14D represented here in VF-2 Low vis scheme when it was introduced in 1997.
The aircraft was deployed onboard USS Constellation and was heavily involved in
the middle east (as most tomcats were in their twilight years).
My last model was
built purely out of the box so I decided this time to see what the whole
aftermarket thing is all about. To my tomcat I added a Velinden Resin
cockpit and new Resin GE F110 Exhaust nozzles from Royal Resins. Both
were fantastically detailed and of much better quality. I did get an
Eduard photoetch sheet but decided not to use it as the parts are just too small
for me to deal with in this scale. Overall paint scheme was done using
Xtraclix paints with my brand new badger airbrush and weathering done with
just a simple black colour wash and bronze pigment to create the marked
areas near the wing pivot points. A few tricks were used that are featured
on this website such a canopies dipped in Future and the seam filling without
sanding. Both had great effects
and all credit goes to those who wrote the articles on those tips.
Overall I had an
absolute ball with this kit which I haven't had in a long time with various
kits. Revell have produced a great kit which fits together very well and
the accuracy is awesome. All I can say is that it looks like a tomcat.
"Tomcats Forever...Baby". This tomcat will be put with a Super
hornet which will be in the same markings to represent the changing over from
one to the other. Hope you all like my new creation. Comments are
welcome.
