Once
again greetings to all ARC readers from Ceki Erginbas.
This
is my latest model: 1/48 Dornier Do 335A Pfeil from
Tamiya. And as many have mentioned before this is again another great
model from Tamiya.

Cutting
Edge’s decals were very nice. It would be fantastic if they were a little bit
thinner. But still
great decals, and better than the inbox decals.
Quicboost’s
exhausts and True Detail’s wheels
were fantastic.
They have a very nice effect on the finished model.
Eduard’s
seatbelts are perfect as usual.
In
this model, I first completed the cockpit. For the main cockpit color I have used
Testors Model Master 20709 RLM66 schwartzgrau.
For the front panel, I used the kit provided decal, and used Testors’s
clear parts cement to give the glass effect inside the indicators.
I
have masked the canopy with bare metal foil.

After
that I assembled the model overall, without any need of putty.
Before painting, I applied a pre-shade of Tamiya XF-1 Flat black on
the panel lines. After that, I applied the RLM 76, 82 & 83 colors.
For this purpose I decided to use something
new and
sprayed Vallejo
acrylics thinned with drinking water.
This was my first time using Vallejo with an airbrush and I have to admit I
wasn’t very happy
with its application.
Maybe if I had used another solvent I could have been a happier modeler
now.
When I thinned the paints, they were either too thin to hold on the
surface, or
too thick that they
constantly kept
drying on the nozzle of the airbrush.

The
colors I used were
70907 Pale Grey Blue, 70823 Luftwaffe Cam. Green
and 70887 Brown Violet. After my struggle with the airbrush was over, I
wasn’t really happy with the tones.
And with this problematic application it seemed impossible to
have the post shade tonal variations properly.
So
I decided to spray highly thinned
Tamiya XF-3 yellow & XF-5 green mixture on the Luftwaffe Cam. Green, and Tamiya XF-62 Olive Drab over the
Brown Violet.
After this application the
colors seemed ok for me and I sealed them with a coat of Tamiya X-22 .

After the
decal application, another coat of X-22, and a little wash of thinned
burnt umber oil paint,
final assembly was done.
The exhaust stains were done using various shades of black and brown, with
low pressure.

Assembly
of the landing gear was a little tricky, but turned out ok at the end.
As
a result, I really enjoyed building this model, and recommend it to every modeler
who likes weird looking aircraft more than
the regular looking ones, like I do.
J
Happy
modelling everyone!
