1/48 Tamiya P-47M Thunderbolt

Hi there,

This is the Tamiya Thunderbolt that I built about a year or so ago.  I chose this kit as it had different and interesting colour schemes, not only that but Tamiya has always had a good reputation in their kits and are not too time consuming to build.  This is built out of the box with the only addition being some Eduard photo etch seatbelts.

The kit itself was an absolute gem to build, everything went together really well and with no problems or fuss. The cockpit was very easy and straight forward to put together and slotted inside the fuselage with no complaints. The wings fitted so well that they are not even glued in place and there was no need for any filler on any part of the aircraft.

Mixing the colours was probably the most difficult part, getting the colours to contrast against one another without being too strong or overbearing was a challenge.  I used only Tamiya acrylics.  The paints used were a mix of X-3, XF-8, XF-18, XF-23,and XF-50, with the undersides being sprayed with bare metal silver.

The decals were no problem, though the larger ones tended to be a bit thick- but nevertheless went on without a problem.  The weathering was done using artists pastels and the figure is from the 1/48 USAAF ICM kit.

A really enjoyable kit, with no big problems or hang ups.
