1/48 Tamiya Focke Wulf Fw-190 D-13

Major Franz Götz was the last commodore of the JG 26. He claimed 63 confirmed air victories.  This rare Fw-190D-13 was flown by him.  The D-13 was equipped with the Jumo 213F.  This resulted in a bigger air intake known from the Tank Ta 152H.  In addition it had the VS 9  propeller with broader prop blades than the VS 111.  Instead of the armament of the D-9 of two MG 131 the D-13 had an engine mounted MG 151/20 cannon which fired through the prop boss.  Both wing mounted MG 151 where retained.  The ejection chutes for the MG 131 and the firing channels were deleted.  A single chute for the engine mounted MG 151 was added.  Further small changes are the somewhat more deeper located filler neck for the 232 l tank.  The access door moved back as well as the first aid box.  The filler neck for the starter fuel was located a little bit higher.

I build this model from the Tamiya kit.  I also used the correction kit from MDC for the FW 190D-9.  But for my model I scratchbuilt a mounting for the Mg 151 and a new firewall without ammo boxes. The gun itself is from Aires.

Painting was done with enamels from Xtra and Humbrol.  The Decals are from Eagle Editions and the pilot figure is from PJ Productions.
