1/32 Hasegawa BF 109 G-6 "Gustav"

by Gonzalo Vidal

--------------------

The Bf 109 was the standard fighter of the Luftwaffe during much of World War Two, although it began to be partially replaced by the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 from 1942. The Bf 109 scored more aircraft kills in World War Two than any other Axis aircraft, and at various times served as an air superiority fighter, an escort fighter, an interceptor, a ground-attack aircraft and a reconnaissance aircraft. The Bf 109 was also produced in greater quantities than any other Axis aircraft of the war and is the most produced fighter aircraft in history, with over 31,000 units built. Although the Bf 109 had some weaknesses, including a short range and troublesome landing gear, it stayed competitive with Allied fighter aircraft until the end of the war. This aircraft was flown by "Erich Hartmann", the most successful fighter ace in the history of aerial combat, with 352  enemy aircraft shot downs. Excellent scale model of Hasegawa, with impressive detailing and perfect fit.

I began pre-shading the panel lines with black matt. The next step was to paint the camouflage colours, beginning by lighter colours, with the common RLM colours of Luftwaffe, RLM 76 light blue, RLM 75 medium grey and RLM 74 dark grey. After the rest of the paint, a layer of "future" was done, and I came to the positioning of the decals.

After another layer of future I painted the panel lines, with oil paint "umbra natur" for the entire model, mixed with turpentine spirit. Finally I soiled diverse zones with oil washes of such colors. The scratches in the fuselage, mainly in the cockpit, were made with brush using aluminum painting. Finally, the antenna is done with nylon thread painted in metalized and stuck carefully with cyano.
