Construction
I
started this kit in back in 2002 (minus the three years that I took a
break from modelling), 2005 saw the return of the models and the completion of
this F-16. I found this model to have a few fit problems with the intake joining
to the fuselage and the nose required a little putty and some light
sanding. The other hassles I found was the closed afterburner can needs
more attention when constructing to make sure all of the pieces line up, in my
case I had some filling to do with putty and some light sanding. I also found joining the can to the rest of the fuselage also resulted in putty and a
lot of sanding to get the fit right. The other trouble I faced was the speed brakes, Hasegawa gives the
modeller the option of cutting off the speed brakes before the fuselage halves
are glued together. I however found this a bit of a hassle, but with the help of
(yep you
guessed it) some putty and a little sanding, I over came the problem. The only other
thing that I did was cut the flaps out of the wing and reposition them in the
down position as they appear on the tarmac
awaiting the next mission. I have noticed in most photos I have seen is
that the F-16 flaps are dropped as it sits on the tarmac. The
rest of the kit went together with little hassle.
Painting
and Finish
The
kit was painted in FS36118, FS36375, FS36320 and FS36270 as well as some white
and black, the decals were then applied. As with all my models a gloss clear was
then sprayed over the kit followed by a pastel wash and finished off with a dull
cote. All and all not a bad kit to build and I have two more F-16s to build yet one
with the black box cockpit and I’ll post it on the site when I finished
