For me it was simply
spoken, too boring, to paint this tri-plane in the usual RED-BARON-scheme,
so I searched for another paint scheme. I found a great 2-sidedrawing of
Lt. Josef JACOBSīs Dr.I (Serial number: 450/17, Jasta.7, May 1918)
This kit was first released in
1957, so the quality is not so good.
I cleaned the inside completely and
rebuilt it with self made plastic sticks, in the correct dimensions.
I also add the engine instrument (left in the cockpit).
The original LMG 08/15īs
of this kit were ugly, so I replaced the cooling bodys with perforate paper
made tubes. I also add the closure lever at the back part of the
weapons,
and the reticle (selfmade!!!!). In the cockpit I built a munitions
reservoir in the
right position below the LMG 08/15`s.
The propeller and the
engine are powered by a small 3Volt electric motor.
But the most difficult
modification was to reform the pilot from standing into sitting position.
The painting was also
difficult, especially the devil on both sides of the fuselage...in picture 10 you can
see a sideview, an original picture of the plane, topview and the outlines
of the devil. The markings were also airbrushed, they were a little pit
simpler!!
In fact....two weeks of intensive
work.....Enjoy it, I did!!
