This is my 1/72
Revell Hawker Hurricane IIc, finished as the personal aircraft of
Air-Vice-Marshall SF Vincent, Air Officer Commanding No 11 Group, Fighter
Command, RAF in the period 1948-1950. According to AVM Vincent's
autobiography, he wanted a personal aircraft, asked Hawkers if they'd got any
old Hurricanes going spare & they rebuilt this for him - some guys have all
the luck!!! After his retirement, the aircraft saw service with various
Station Flights, appeared in a couple of movies & in 1957 was given to what
became the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, where it still resides though not
in quite the same form. Following engine failure & a forced landing in
1991, the aircraft caught fire & was burnt out. Following much debate
& the sale of Spitfire PRXIX PS853 to fund it, the aircraft was completely
rebuilt by Historic Flying Ltd & flew again in 1998.
I built the kit virtually straight from the box adding etched seatbelts,
removing the cannon barrels & filing down the spine so the canopy would fit
over it in the open position. Paint was Humbrol enamels, the silver being
a custom mix of Aluminium & Chrome Silver. Decals were primarily
Xtradecals, with Modeldecal crests, Tally Ho rank pennants & Techmod
fuselage serials.
I have to say that I'm very impressed with this kit & think it looks
especially good in the post-war colour scheme. I was sufficiently
impressed that I immediately began work on the closely-related IIB kit &
have subsequently bought another two of the IICs. Hope you like it too.
