Hello,

This a short article about the new “big scale” Helicopter from Trumpeter.

I was asked to write an article for the German model magazine “Modell Fan” about this kit so I started building an unusual project for me.

Normally I build Nato jets and helicopters and this was my first step to former “east block” aircraft and I had to learn something about the colors they use, specially the green color inside...

The Trumpeter kit is great, the fit is perfect and the building no problem, but on the other side it is missing the complete interior on the cargo deck, so i decided to build it scratch as it is good visible thru the open doors.

I also added a new rescue hoist, the kit part is only for older Mi-8-variants, and a weather radar nose from my spare box.

I decided not to take the kit decal variants, as an UN-Helicopter is more in my interest and so I build this machine as a Helicopter from UNPROFOR, the UN-Mission in Bosnia.

The painting is with Gunze-colors with a preshading and some light washing and pastel chalks for the exhaust area, the decals are from an “UN”-sheet (tl-decals) or homemade with clear decal film and my printer.

All in all I think this is a great kit, but if you think about building it you will need a really big showcase, as the rotor diameter is 62cm and the total length 73 cm.

I hope, you like it
