A-4E Skyhawk VF-45 Blackbirds

Having earlier this year built my first Hasegawa Skyhawk, I was impressed with the kit and even more impressed with the choice of aggressor markings available.

I have always had a personal liking for the schemes that mimic the Soviet air superiority colours (as seen on Flankers).

Having a spare sheet of TwoBobs "Top Gun Tinker Toys" handy, I decided to do a "quick" build.

This meant no aftermarket gear and gear up. The pilot came from a Has. F/A-18 kit (after a crash diet he fit the somewhat smaller A-4 cockpit !).

Wanting to show the aircraft manoeuvring I thought it was a good opportunity to re-position all the control surfaces appropriately.

Painting proceeded as per the TwoBobs sheet with the exception of the base Light Ghost Gray which I lightened by 50% with white. All paints used where Testors Model Master.

The whole project took me just under two months (yes, I am a slow builder).
Hope this inspires you to dust off one of those Scooters in your closet.
