This is Revell's 1/144 F-14D in VF-103 markings. In my honest opinion I think it has the best details in kits of this scale. The decals are from Fightertown and the sheet ID is FTD144-004. The kit has impressive detail for such a small size. The recessed lines are nice as well as the AIM-54s. The decal sheet even provides the necessary markings for the missiles. Also included in the decal sheet are the zebra stripes for the engine nacelles; thank God! Painting these by hand would be nearly impossible in this scale.

I bought the wooden base at my local hobby shop. I stained the wood, then painted half of it flat black and made custom decals of the Jolly Roger. I attempted to glaze the base with pour on polyester resin. I missed some of the edges of the base in my first attempt! Once the resin dried I applied Tamiya's Diorama Texture Paint "Pavement Effect" to the other half and painted it in a desert sand color.

I weathered the panels with pastel chalk then touched up some of the corners with base paint to simulate touch ups after re-installing access panels. Overall I think the display came out pretty good.
