1/48 Hasegawa A6M5 Zero

Gallery Article by Fabio on Sept 29 2010

This is my first submission on ARC, the Hasegawa Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero Type 52.  The kit was built out of the box, except for the use of Eduard Colour Photo-Etched seat belts, which added some nice details to the cockpit.  I really enjoyed building this kit.  The fit was perfect and the only area which needed some puttying and sanding was the junction between wings and the fuselage.

The model was painted using Gunze Acrylic Colours.  I sprayed the Gunze H59 IJN Green on the upper surfaces and Gunze IJN Gray on the lower.  The Aotake colour was replicated using H63 Metallic Blue Green.  Weathering was achieved through different techniques: pre-shading, post-shading and washing using oil paints in order to highline panel lines; pigments and Tamiya Smoke for exhaust dust.

As I do not like using decals very much, I painted all the Hinomaru using masks that I did from Tamiya tape using a compass with a knife.

Thanks to all the people on ARC.  I find their articles very useful in order to improve my modelling techniques.

Greetings from Italy!

Fabio
