1/48 Academy P-40C Tomahawk

This kit was supposed to be a Tomahawk from the Flying Tigers but I've been feeling very patriotic and decided to do this Tomahawk in South African Air Force markings and camo for the North African campaign during World War 2.  The research I did indicated that the SAAF was the only African Air Force taking part as it's own individual entity and not under the British Commonwealth.  The aircraft I tried to emulate is one from 5th Squadron known as the Chakas after the Zulu king and they were responsible for ground attack sorties in general.

To find the right colors for the paint job was difficult so I mixed until I found something that was similar to the reference pictures I had.  All paints were Humbrol enamel.  The build was easy with the parts fitting together rather well with only minor filling needed.

The decals were from www.mavdecals.co.za, they were great and easy to use!  Please check the site for any and all SAAF and African markings and decals.  Thank you for the great site here at ARC!
