Here's a new decal sheet from Zotz Decals featuring 3 different P-47s.  Two of these planes feature sexy artwork.

The first aircraft is P-47N-1-RE "Short Snorter/2 Big And Too Heavy" flown by Joe Heffernan the 333rd FS, 318th FG, leShima, Ryukyu Islands in April of 1945.  This aircraft includes sexy noseart of a nude brunette on one side and different artwork of a nude brunette on the other side.  The paint scheme is baremetal overall with the top of the tail and ends of the tail horizontal flying surfaces done in insignia yellow with black demarcation lines.  The forward ring of the engine cowling is in insignia yellow with black demarcation lines.  The top of the fuselage fore and aft of the canopy has flat black anti glare panels.

Corrections provided by Mr. Norris Graser

  • 2 Big/Short Snorter:  2 big and the serial are correct but after a LOT of research and talking to many pilots from the 333rd it appears that Short Snorter was applied later AFTER the  black yellow zebra stripes were added in June  1945 .  As far as I know, there NEVER was a Joe Heffernan assigned to   this plane. The name Heffernan doesn’t appear on any  WW II crew list published for the 333rd FS or 318th FG that I have seen.
  • Also, the number 21 would not be on this P-47  when utilizing the  yellow  half vertical color scheme. 333rd  P-47 Ns  did not have numbers other then the serial on the tail when  using this early  squadron scheme.  After going to the zebra  striped tails they then applied numbers and 21 would be correct. If they did have numbers 9 and they didn’t), they would not be in the 1-49  numbers range as those numbers were  assigned to the 19th FS/318th FG when the early vertical color schemes were in use. The 1 through 49 numbers were reassigned to the 333rd only after  they  repainted in the yellow/black zebra  tail scheme.

The second aircraft is P-47N-2-RE "Chautauqua" with the 463rd FS, 507th FG, flown by Lt. Schmidt out of leShima, Ryukyu Islands in April of 1945.  This aircraft was named after Lt. Schmidt's NY hometown.  There are two confirmed air victories and 5 bomb mission markings on this aircraft but the serial number is not known. This aircraft includes sexy noseart of a nude American Indian maiden in a full feather head dress.  The paint scheme is baremetal overall with the tail painted in insignia yellow with with blue triangles.  The top of the fuselage fore and aft of the canopy has flat black anti glare panels.  Three triangles are provided, but according to Mr. Norris Graser you would only be using some of the triangles.

Correction note provided by Mr. Norris Graser

  • 507th planes did not have a triangle on the stabilizers- either side.  JUST on both sides of the vertical.

The third aircraft is P-47N-1-RE "Icky and Me" with the 318th FS 333rd FG, le Shima, July 1945 flown by Lt.  Jack Payne.  This aircraft received it's name because it was covered in mud when he got it.  The pilot remembers yellow being applied to the wing tips.  This aircraft has 8 kills markings, but the final 4 were hastily applied as red X's instead of the rising sun flags of the 4 earlier kill markings.  This aircraft survived the war and was sold to the Chinese Air Force.  This aircraft includes noseart of the text "Icky and Me" and artwork of a green cobra snake with P-47 wings and some playing dice all within a triangle.  The paint scheme is baremetal overall with the tail painted with black and yellow zebra stripes.  The forward ring of the engine cowling is in insignia yellow with black demarcation lines.  The top of the fuselage fore and aft of the canopy has flat black anti glare panels.  The wing tips are yellow.

The instructions are clear and include 3 views of each aircraft.  The decals are beautifully printed on 4 decal sheets.  One complete set of stencils is included on this decal sheet.

Zotz Decals is famous for aircraft with sexy noseart and this decal sheet delivers the goods.  The hardest part is deciding which one of these 3 great looking "Jugs" to build.
