This new decal
sheet from Cutting
Edge Modelworks includes markings for VFA-105 Gunslingers and VFA-87
War Party for two F/A-18C's in
1/48 scale shortly after they returned from an operational cruise in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom. The recommended kit for these decals is the 1/48 Hasegawa F/A-18C.
The first Hornet on this sheet is
a F/A-18C # 164200 with the VFA-105 flown by Capt "Cyrus Vance, CAG and
Capt "Irish" Rainey DCAG. This CAG bird is
in the standard FS 36375 / FS 36320 scheme and features green/gold
stenciling and numbers. On the outside of the tails is a black knight chess piece on a
green pennant and on the inside is a triangle artwork of a hand with
lightning bolts coming out of the tips of the fingers and text that reads
"Carrier Air Wing Three". This jet flew off the USS Harry S Truman and text on the
side of the nose reads "GIVE 'EM HELL" and text on the side of the
fuselage reads "Tonight We.....Ride!". This jet also
includes mission markings. The
second Hornet on this sheet is a F/A-18C # 164687 with the VFA-87 flown by Capt
Steve Laukaitis, DCAG "Moose" and Capt. Dave Newland, CAG
"Newly". This CAG bird is
in the standard FS 36375 / FS 36320 scheme and features black
stenciling and numbers. On the outside of the tails is a Native American
Indian Chief wearing a tradition feathered headdress and War Paint on his
cheeks and the text below it that reads "War Party". This jet flew off the USS Harry S Truman. This jet also
includes mission markings.
