1/48 Hasegawa McDonnell Douglas F-4B Phantom II

This is one of those kits I wish Hasegawa would go back and rework mainly to give it some recessed panel lines and rivet detail. However this kit out of the box is still a nice one to build up. This is my fifth time building this kit and it goes together nicely with only one real gripe and that's the wing root area of the model. Still this required only a minimum amount of filling to make look right. The cockpit interior is completely OOB, the only thing added is I made my own belts and harnesses for the seats.

Arguably one of the most colorful of all the US Navy F-4 units of the Vietnam War, I finished this F-4B in the colors of the CAG aircraft VF-51 "Screaming Eagles" Call Sign "Eagles". This is "Screaming Eagle 100" flying off the USS Coral Sea CV-43, Gulf of Tonkin, North Vietnam, December 1972. VF-51 F-4B aircrews downed 4 Mig-17's during their deployment to "Yankee Station" aboard USS Coral Sea. Paint is Testors Modelmaster Gloss Light Gull Gray FS 16440 and Flat insignia White FS37875. Decals are CAM 48-025. The Phantom is armed in standard MIGCAP armament of 2 EFT"s on the outer pylons 4 AIM-9 Sidewinders and the inboard pylons, 4 AIM-7 Sparrows on the fuselage stations and a 600gal. EFT on the centerline.
